Nestled in the jungle, on top of a mountain, Machu Picchu is not the easiest place to reach - but how do you get there?

There is no doubt that Machu Picchu is a mandatory stop on your trip to Peru, because not every day you are lucky enough to visit one of the 7 Wonders of the Modern World. Now, getting to Machu Picchu is an adventure in itself, dust off your trekking shoes and pack your favourite waterproof jacket, as you will find a path full of incredible landscapes and architectural works in an environment that will take your breath away due its beauty.

This bimodal journey will take you from Cuzco by bus to Ollantaytambo train station, with a stop off at Mirador de Poroy (2hrs). Hop onboard the famous Inca Rail train (1hr 40mins) as you weave from the valley before arriving to Machu Picchu Pueblo (Aguas Calientes).

There are a number of trains to choose from, from the Voyager to the 360. Originally I had booked an all-inclusive ticket onboard the Voyager but was told we were upgraded to the 360! We enjoyed breathtaking scenery of the Andes from our open-air observatory car, admired unique views of the sky and the mountains through panoramic windows, indulged in a selection of traditional snacks with local flavours, and experienced an ancient Incan ritual ceremony onboard with traditional music and instruments...

The journey was $180 there and $83 back (per person). For 2 people it was about €450 - and I 100% recommend it! Especially the all inclusive package! Take a look at the information above to see what is included. Remember to make your reservation months in advance, don't miss this opportunity of a lifetime - book now at Train Tickets to Machu Picchu + Entry.

Inca Rail also has an amazing guide on what to do and the steps to follow:

What do you need to enter the citadel?
