Sex, drugs and alcohol...just kidding, the city is more that just that. Now let me show you...

Amongst the endless canals and bikes in Amsterdam
Amongst the endless canals and bikes in Amsterdam

Bulldog & Red Light District:

I stayed at the Bulldog Hotel: a world famous super comfy hangout, frequented by rock stars. Secure, comfortable and easy to locate. Enjoy the bar and lounge for good food and drinks, a game of pool, or the world's first coffee shop. Visit the rooftop and street terrace gardens and surround yourself with the mix of people that stay there. Check out their website here: Home - The Bulldog Hotel Amsterdam or visit my review to find out more. Of course if wouldn't be a visit to Amsterdam done right without going to the Red Light District, and the Bulldog is located right in the centre of it.

The heart of the canals are located right in the Red Light District

Canal Cruise:

Speaking of canals...make sure you get on a boat and take a tour through them. The Amsterdam canal cruise passes by all of Amsterdam's famous attractions. The canal tour starts at the very heart of the city, right near Central Station. From here each cruise takes a different path through the city, depending on the amount of traffic on the canals and the size of the boat. Sights you will definitely see include the World Heritage-listed 17th-century canals and the cities iconic architecture. Enjoy the sights along the most famous of the waterways, the Herengracht, Keizersgracht & Prinsengracht. As you travel through Amsterdam's neighbourhoods, such as the Jordaan, the Nine Streets or the Pijp, you might see sights like the Amstel river which gave the city its name, the Anne Frank House and the iconic Skinny bridge. The company I booked with was Lovers Canal Cruises | Amsterdam Canal Cruise, and I paid €17.50 for a ticket.

Anne Frank's House:

One of my highlights was visiting Anne Frank's hiding place, which is now the Anne Frank House museum in Amsterdam. The museum is located at the site where the Frank family hid from the Nazis during World War II. Visitors can tour the original building, including the secret annex hidden by the original kept bookcase, as well as seeing extracts of Anne Frank's famous diary. I strongly recommend buying your tickets way in advance: Tickets | Anne Frank House because they sell out fast! Every Tuesday at 10:00 they release new tickets, even on days that were sold out before so be fast and try your luck!

Van Gogh Museum:

Full of famous paintings and drawings, the Van Gogh Museum is a Dutch art museum dedicated to the works of Vincent van Gogh. Vincent van Gogh was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter who is among the most famous and influential figures in the history of Western art. In just over a decade, he created approximately 2,100 artworks, including around 860 oil paintings, most of them in the last two years of his life. This museum holds some of his most famous works such as: 'The Starry Night', and 'Vase with 15 Sunflowers'. By the way, if tickets have sold out, the day before at 17:00 they sell ones for the next day, but make sure you are fast! Try to book your tickets here at: Van Gogh Museum - Online tickets

The Heineken Experience:

To finish your time here in Amsterdam, why not relax with a beer at the Heineken Experience. In 1867 the first brewery stone was laid. The Heineken Experience is a brand experience within Heinekens oldest brewery, in the heart of Amsterdam. In 1988 the former brewery closed down, because we got too big for our boots. Today, the historical building serves as a venue where you can learn all about our Heineken® heritage, the brewing process, our sometimes-crazy innovations, our sponsorings and the story behind the star. You’ll also learn about the best way to taste and enjoy your Heineken® beer. Tickets are €24.95 but if you wish to enjoy your drink on the rooftop it's €29.95.
